Music: The Sound Of Silence

...As performed by the band Disturbed. Yes, really. No, I'm not kidding. Seriously, listen to this thing.

  1. That was impressive. A bit overdone, but that's Disturbed. They don't do subtle. I've always known they were more talented than they get credit for, so it's nice to see them branch out and do things that might get them more attention.

  2. That was such a good song that I ended up buying a copy of it on iTunes. :)

  3. Is this typical of this band's work? I ask because I'm always looking for something new, and dramatic is good.

    1. I'd have to go with, "No." They're a metal band, probably best known for Down With The Sickness. As Josh H-W noted above, they're more talented than their chosen genre necessarily shows, but this is definitely something of a departure from their usual work. On the other hand, if you're looking for something to keep you awake at work, and your cow-orkers can handle a bit of cursing, well... go for it.

Have you been following the Operatic Metal trend over the last few years? Bands like Nightwish, Within Temptation, Epica, Diabulus In Musica, and Xandria might give you something more in keeping with the overall tone of this song. (Or, I might be wildly off-base in guessing about where your musical tastes tend...)

    2. Wildly off-base, I'm afraid. I'm not into metal in the least. Wrong generation...

    3. All right. You want something more poetic? Try Dessa. Start with "Castor, The Twin", or maybe check out "Parts Of Speech". She's an odd blend, I don't really know how to describe it, of rock and rap and beat poetry. You can find samples on YouTube, and several of them are awesome. For a single song, maybe try "Mineshaft".

Anyone who references Zeno's Arrow and related subjects ought to be at least generally up your alley, I hope.
