Long and Short Reviews has a set of prompts for their Weekly Wednesday Blogging Challenge for 2020. If you'd like to join me, the prompts are here and you can check in on their home page every Wednesday to find a post with links to people's responses. (If you do participate, add your own links so the rest of us can come and read them!)
This week's prompt is "best book/movie/TV couples", which I'm taking to mean one from each medium. (I'm pretty sure it doesn't have to be read that way, but this reading keeps my answer nicely contained.)
Best Book Couple:
The one that first comes to mind is Captain Thomas Boniface and Kade Carrion from Martha Wells' debut fantasy novel The Element of Fire. To be fair, this is a fantasy novel with a romance subplot, but it's very well done and there are some very nice moments as it develops.
Best Movie Couple:
Okay, don't hate me for this, but among the relatively recent movies the one that really stands out to me is Iron Man and Captain America. Talk about opposites attracting! Yes, I know we never get a revealing kiss (let alone a Happily Ever After), but man there's a lot of unspoken emotion there.
...But all right, if we have to one where the romance is canon, then I'm going to go with my favorite Couple Who Never Got Their Chance: Ellen Ripley and Dwayne Hicks from the second Aliens movie.
Best Television Couple:
Gomez and Morticia Addams, independently sentient hands down. They're creepy, they're magical, they're romantic, they're... well, Life Goals for me, to be honest.
What are yours?
Someone else mentioned Gomez and Morticia this week, too!
ReplyDeleteAnd Iron Man and Captain America would make a great couple. There was definitely subtext there.
My post.
Well, the nice thing about the Addams Family is that it could fit any of the three categories. Books (or at least cartoons), TV, Movies... and the romance is there in all three!
DeleteI remember watching the fight between Steve, Bucky and Tony in "Civil War" when Steve says, "He's my friend." and Tony replies, "So was I." Broke my heart.
ReplyDeleteI'd say more "bromance" than "romance" but still …
Yeah, definitely not canon and definitely not a couple in the conventional sense, but... I know I'm not the only one who saw it.
DeleteGreat job. I enjoy each of the couples you named. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming by!
DeleteI need to check out The Element of Fire! That's one book I haven't read yet.
ReplyDeleteMartha Wells is one of those authors where I will read essentially anything she writes.
DeleteI enjoyed the Adamms Family movies, but the TV Show where Gomez goes nuts every time Morticia speaks French was a hoot. https://pmprescott.blogspot.com/2020/01/wednesday-challenge-012920.html
ReplyDeleteIt really was.
DeleteIron Man and Captain America yes. I could also see sort of a weird love triangle threesome thing with them and Bucky. Or Bucky, Cap and Falcon. But I love to run in those directions with the characters, hence the Xavier/Lensherr bit on my blog. Great list!
ReplyDeleteI figured you'd either like that one, or strongly object. Thanks for coming by!
DeleteYes to the Marvel and Addams family pairings! Love them. I also loved Wells' Murderbot and will have to check out the one you have here.
ReplyDeleteHer whole backlist, to be honest. But yes, I absolutely adore Murderbot, too.
DeleteWow! I believe I read "The Element of Fire" eons ago, Michael. Now I'm on a hunt to find the book! Must revisit the story and couple. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYay!
DeleteLove your choice of Morticia and Gomez, Michael! And now I'm off to see out The Element of Fire too Ta!
ReplyDeleteLOL I love watching episodes of the Adams Family so I definately agree with Morticia and Gomez!

Morticia and Gomez for the win! they were awesome!
ReplyDeleteI agree on Iron Man and Captain America. Although I've seen a lot of people push for Cap with Bucky too.
