Okay, so it's getting close to Halloween and you just aren't finding anything creepy enough to really get you in the right mood. Well, I have a solution: Robin Seale (author of the The Watcher of Yaathagggu) has a guest comic up over at Midnight Tea Party.
Go. Read it. Be creeped out. You always really suspected that this was how it worked...
Whoa.
ReplyDeleteOf course, this touches why Halloween doesn't make sense to me. 364 days of the year, parents teach their kids to be wary of strangers and never accept anything from them.
Then on October 31, parent take their tots, dress them in costumes and push them onto doorstep after doorstep practically ordering them to beg each household for candy.
Conflicting messages much?
I tend to see the reversal a bit differently: it's the one day of the year when kids can (within limits) demand things from adults, instead of the other way around. But then, I always enjoyed the costuming/pretending elements of Halloween - in fact, I preferred Halloween over Christmas even when I was young. (Note to Santa: not that I didn't appreciate the toys, mind you!)
