Threaded comments?

So... the Blog o' Doom here has suddenly acquired threaded comments. I have very mixed feelings about this - for short exchanges they can be kind of fun, but in any sort of extended conversation they're unhelpful if not actively confusing. So what do the rest of you think? Should I be looking for a way to turn that, erm, "feature" off?

  1. My blog has been spared thus far, and I believe will probably continue to be spared since I'm running an unbelievably archaic blogger layout.

I'd leave it active for now, although you could try to find the off-switch for this particular bug-erm-feature should it become unwieldy.

  2. Meh, I use Disqus and have had only minor issues with it.

  3. Threaded comments are necessary. They facilitate discussion and interaction. That said, I would limit how deep the comment nesting can go. I set my blog at 5. This keeps the discussions from getting strung out.

Just my personal opinion. InusecDisqus too.

Feel free to leave comments; it lets me know that people are actually reading my blog. Interesting tangents and topic drift just add flavor. Linking to your own stuff is fine, as long as it's at least loosely relevant. Be civil, and have fun!
